Cello virtuosi Lanny Paykin has enjoyed a highly diverse musical career spanning over thirty years. His professional credits include regular appearances with the illustrious orchestras of the New York City Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera, performances in various solo and chamber music concerts, and a wide range of recordings with major studios.
Lanny has appeared as the Principal Cellist for the New York City Opera, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Long Island Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the American Composers’ Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Westchester Philharmonic. While with the New York Philharmonic, Lanny traveled throughout Asia with performances in Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, before returning back to Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. His most recent residency was as the assistant principal cellist with the Adelaide (Australia) Symphony Orchestra. Lanny has appeared at numerous summer festivals including the Bard Music Festival, Manchester Music Festival, Philomusica at Dartmouth College, Aspen Festival, and the Paros (Greece) Festival, and has recorded on the Premier Records, DRG and MMD labels.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Weslyan University and a Masters of Music degree in Cello Performance from the Julliard School, Lanny went on to receive the prestigious Julliard Alumni Award. His other honors include the Paderewski Foundation Award, which celebrates musicians who contribute to Polish-Ukrainian unity.
Ever the avid instructor, Lanny has taught cello privately to students of all ages and levels, and has been on the faculties of Wesleyan University, Manhattan School of Music Pre-College, and School for Strings. He is currently on the faculty of Montclair State University’s summer program at Stokes Forest.
